Soil Voucher Program

Oldham County residents are eligible to receive vouchers for free soil testing!  Through grant funds from the KY Division of Conservation, Oldham County Fiscal Court and the Oldham County Environmental Authority, we are happy to provide this service to you. Simply call our office at 502-222-5123 or drop us an email at oldhamswcd@gmail.com to request vouchers.

Tree Seedling Giveaway

Our next tree seedling giveaway will be held on a Saturday towards the end of March at 10:00 a.m. (exact date tba).  We will have limited supplies of the following species of trees available: Virginia Pine; White Pine; Loblolly Pine; Eastern Redbud; Wild Plum; Yellow-Poplar; Northern Red Oak; Black Oak; Chinkapin Oak, Willow Oak, and Persimmon.

Monarch Butterfly Program  

Eggs are harvested in July and grown to approximately 1" long larva.  At this stage, they are packaged in individual containers and sent to OC schools along with resource materials to teach the Monarch lifecycle and metamorphosis.

Teachers and home school parents interested in participating in the program can sign-up by calling our office at 222-5123. Spots fill up fast so get your name on the list!

Mid-September be on the lookout for the monarchs as they migrate back through Oldham County on their way to Mexico.  It's a truly a sight to see!

Conservation Art and Writing Contest

This statewide program is sponsored by the KY Division of Conservation and KY Farm Bureau. It is open to all Oldham County students K - 12.

Contest LogoThe topic for 2017 is Water Is Life!  Student winners from each school, along with their teacher and principal, are invited to an awards banquet in their honor.

Congratulations to Maggie Hall (from St. Aloysius School) winner of the 2016 Conservation Writing Contest, and Lilah Menard (from Crestwood Elementary School) winner of the 2016 Jim Claypool Art Contest!
